Idli is one of the main south Indian breakfast/ dinner. When we have left over idlis from the previous meal we usually make idli upma. It is very simple and very easy to make. When in college I asked my mom to prepare this very often even after wedding I still love this.
Left over Idli Upma South Indian Recipe

Ingredients
- Idilli – 8 nos
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard – 1/2 tsp
- Split Urad dhal – 1 tsp
- Channa dhal – 1 tsp
- Onion – 1 no ( Medium )
- Green Chili – 4 nos ( as per ur taste )
- Curry Leaves – 1 strand
- Tomato – 2 nos ( Medium )
- Turmeric – 1/4 tsp
- Salt – to taste
Instructions
PREP:
- Break the left over idlis using your hand and prepare the idli upma. Keep it aside.
- Chop onion and tomato. Split open green chili.
COOKING:
- In a pan, add oil, mustard, channa dhal and urad dhal. When Mustard crackles, add green chili, curry leaves. Fry for 30 sec.
- Add the chopped onion and fry till onion is translucent. Add the chopped tomato,turmeric and cook till tomatoes are mashed up.
- Add the idili upma and salt. Mix well and keep it on stove for 2 min. Keep mixing it until it’s warm.
TIPS:
- Idli upma tastes even better if it’s left over from the previous day.
