Sorakkai Paal Curry / Pal Sorakai Poriyal / Bottle Gourd Milk Gravy

Lot of us know to cook bottel gourd in one or two ways to make a fry or some sweet recipe. I should say this is the best recipe i had with Bottle Gourd. Once of my friends who was my roommate too cooked this when we were staying together, I just loved it in the first attempt itself. Bottel gourd with ghee and milk should be a perfect combination to mix with white rice, can also be eaten with Chapathi or roti.

Ingredients
  • To cook separately :
  • Bottle Gourd – 1 ( Medium )
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • For tempering :
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard – 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dhal – 1/2 tsp
  • Onion – 1/2 no
  • Curry Leaves – 1 strand
  • Red Chili Powder – 2 tsp
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 2 tsp
Instructions
PREP:
  1. Peal the bottle gourd skin and chop them in to small pieces.
  2. Use the items in the section “To Cook separately”, In a vessel heat the oil, add salt – 1/2 tsp and the chopped bottle gourd and fry for a minute.
  3. Add water – 1/4 cup and cook the bottle gourd. Add less water so that they don’t need to be drained when they are cooked.
COOKING:
  1. In a nonstick pan, heat oil, mustard, urad dhal and wait till mustard splutter. Add chopped onion, Curry leaves and fry till onion is translucent. Add Red chili powder and fry for a minute.
  2. Add the cooked bottle gourd and fry for 2 minutes. Add milk, ghee, required salt and allow it to boil, wait till the oil separates and the milk is completely evaporated.
