When I went to meet my friend in Chicago, we had been to Penang Restaurant for dinner. I never have been to any Malaysian restaurant before but N does many times, since his parents lived in Malaysia for quite a long time.
They all suggested me Roti Canai with the Chicken curry. I very much fell in love with those after having them. Hence I added it to my priority recipes list to prepare at home. The roti canai tasted much like our Ceylon parota but very thin and the chicken curry is different from what we cook. It’s not too much loaded with spicy aroma though it had all the spices we use. I noticed they add coconut milk instead of ground coconut and also the curry gets rich yellow color coz of lot of turmeric.

Ghee Lentil Rice / Nei Paruppu Sadam
This is a simplified version of bisibelabath. Hang on, I didn’t mean the authentic one, it’s my version. When you feel lazy to cook, this would be an easier recipe with a quick cook time. Of course, dhal with ghee tastes heavenly and you can add any vegetables of your taste. Though it is sort of an instance recipe, it vanishes from the plate pretty fast.
Instant Tamarind Rice / Readymade mix Puliodharai Sadam
An instant ready made tamarind rice with the ready made Sakthi Masala Puliyodharai Podi. It’s quick and yet tastes good like home made.
Brinjal Masala Rice / Spicy Kathirikai Sadam
Masala rice turned nice aromatic with less work. Back in my childhood, when my grand father was alive, we used to have this planted in our farms very frequently. I hated brinjal all my life until I got married and started trying out new recipes on my own. I love brinjal these days and love trying variations. In this recipe since I didn’t have small brinjal, i used eggplant.
Creamy Curd Rice / Thayir Sadam
Yogurt rice would definitely be a last meal in our lunch menu. We make thick home made curd from the milk which we get from our farms. Use home made curd for best tastes, check it out the home made curd here. This recipe makes a perfect Potluck Curd Rice which creamy and rich in taste. Also this doesn’t get dry soon.
Carrot Masala Rice / Carrot Sadam
Normally we prepare carrot rice by just making carrot fry and mix them with it. Carrot Masala Rice is prepared with ground masala powders. They taste more aromatic.
