A typical Kongunadu Style Vendaikkai Varuval which goes good with white rice and curd rices. Eat this with chapathi or roti as well. The speicality is using home made sambar powder from our houses, it has a unique taste.
Gravies & Curries
Pudalangai Poriyal / Snake Gourd Stir Fry / Pudalangai Varuval
A typical kongunadu snake gourd curry. At villages, where my grand parents were living, they grew up snake gourd plants at their back yards. Every house at least will have some of the regular vegetables grown for their own usages. They freshly pluck the vegetables for their cooking. Atleast, once in a week these king of fry would be cooked. Tastes good with white rice and curd rice.
Vendakkai Puli Kuzhambu / Ladies Finger Puli Kulambu
Vendakkai puli kuzhambu is one of the specialties from Kongunadu, I mean this is the way we cook. Freshly ground Masalas spreads the aroma and sure everyone would love it. This can be eaten with white rice or curd rice.
Sorakkai Paal Curry / Pal Sorakai Poriyal / Bottle Gourd Milk Gravy
Lot of us know to cook bottel gourd in one or two ways to make a fry or some sweet recipe. I should say this is the best recipe i had with Bottle Gourd. Once of my friends who was my roommate too cooked this when we were staying together, I just loved it in the first attempt itself. Bottel gourd with ghee and milk should be a perfect combination to mix with white rice, can also be eaten with Chapathi or roti.
Hotel Sambar / Tiffin Sambar
Any one would be delighted to hear the recipe cooked with restaurant style at home. I am sure of that kind. This is a tamilnadu style Hotel Sambar more like Saravana Bhavan Sambar. I love this with idili, dosa, pongal and other tiffin items. The ground Masala added at the end gives the extra taste.
Buttermilk Gravy / Mor Kulambu
A simple flavorful Kulambu to be accompanied with white rice. Potato roast or vadam is the best combo according to me.
Tried making chetinnadu method vendaikkai moor kulambu and it turned out very good. I think this is derived from Revathi Shanmugam recipes, don’t remember exactly. My mom makes it without coriander leaves and green chili but it does add unique flavor and I enjoy it with this.
