Vendakkai puli kuzhambu is one of the specialties from Kongunadu, I mean this is the way we cook. Freshly ground Masalas spreads the aroma and sure everyone would love it. This can be eaten with white rice or curd rice.
Sesame Oil / Naleenai
Tomato Thokku / Thakali Pachadi / Tomato Pickle
Tomato Thokku is many of our favorites and this is a tamilnadu style thokku. The moment we get remained it’s mouth watering and tempts everyone. What does not go with this should be the question ? It is the best combo for idili, dosa, Chapathi, rice, curd rice, bread spread or anything matches with this. Best part is it can be prepared in bulk and can be stored.
Thakali thokku should be kept in any Air tight container and refrigerating increases it’s stay period. This can stay upto 15 days if it’s carefully sealed and used dry spoon to take it out.
Raw Mango Rice / Mangai Sadam
Mango rice preparations is much similar to the lemon rice but will be with mango’s sour taste added coz of raw mango prepared in tamilnadu style. My friend advised me not to make any dishes with onions on Varalakshimi Nonbu and I decided to make this. So this rice don’t have onions, but if needed they can be added.
Nattu Kozhi Kulambu / Chicken Gravy
This is some what similar to the way we prepare chicken kuzhambu at kongunadu houses. We don’t add star anise, black stone flower. I added those to get the extra aroma which suites well for idili and dosa. Preparing this with the whole chicken gives an extra ordinary taste. Chicken thighs or breasts can also be substituted but will get the taste little closer to the original.
Buttermilk Gravy / Mor Kulambu
A simple flavorful Kulambu to be accompanied with white rice. Potato roast or vadam is the best combo according to me.
Tried making chetinnadu method vendaikkai moor kulambu and it turned out very good. I think this is derived from Revathi Shanmugam recipes, don’t remember exactly. My mom makes it without coriander leaves and green chili but it does add unique flavor and I enjoy it with this.
Ennai Kathirikkai Kuzhambu / Oil Brinjal Gravy
Ennai Kathirkkai is one of our fav. Brinjal is cooked well in tamarind juice. It tastes awesome with steamed white rice.
