Vermicelli Noodle / Semiya Upma

Vermicelli Noodle / Semiya Upma

This recipe is prepared mostly for breakfast or dinner. Any noodles can be substituted instead of Rice noodles.

Ingredients :
Vermicelli Packet 200 gm
Oil 1 tsp
Mustard 1 tsp
Urad Dhal 1 tsp
Channa Dhal 1 tsp
Green Chili 5
Ginger small piece
Curry Leaves 1 strand
Big Onion 1
Turmeric 1/4 tsp
Tomato 1
Vegetables 2 cups as per ur taste
Directions:
  1. Step 1

    Add oil- 1 tsp in a pan and fry Vermicelli till it becomes golden brown. In a vessel boil some water with little salt. Add fried Vermicelli and boil for 2 – 3 min till it becomes soft. Filter the water using a food strainer and keep it aside in a plate. Chop Onion, tomato. Cut vegetables in to length wise pieces or small pieces. Split Green Chili. Finely chop ginger.

  2. Step 2

    Meanwhile, heat oil in a pan. When hot, add mustard, urad dhal , channa dhal. When mustard splutters, saute green chili, ginger, curry leaves, turmeric, onion and fry for 2 min. Add tomato and cook till it becomes gravy. Add the chopped vegetables, salt and fry them well in oil. Close the lid of the pan untill the vegetables are cooked completely. Add the cooked Vermicelli and mix them together gently. If required add salt.

Tips :
  • Add 1 cup of water to cook Vermicelli directly.
  • Adding Vegetables is optional.

(*) Enjoy with curd or coconut chutney.
