Kathitrikai Kara Kuzhambu is one of dishes that’s severed in hotel lunch menus. I loved the taste of it and always wanted to make it. This recipe taste good with white rice with some pappadam.

Ingredients
  • Brinjal/ Katharikkai - 10 ( Small )
  • Onion - 2 no
  • Garlic - 10 cloves
  • Tomato - 4 no
  • Tamarind - small lemon size
  • Red Chili Powder - 2½ tsp
  • Coriander Powder - 1½ tsp
  • Turmeric - ¼ tsp
  • Salt - to taste
To Grind :
  • Coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Cashew - 4 no
  • Poppy Seeds - 2 tsp
  • Fennel Seeds - ¼ tsp
  • Pepper - ¼ tsp
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Seasoning :
  • Sesame Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Mustard - ½ tsp
  • Fenugreek - ½ tsp
  • Fennel Seeds - ½ tsp
Instructions
PREP:
  1. Cut brinjal in length wise. Soak tamarind in 2 cups of water and squeeze it juice. Grind the items given in " To Grind " Section. Chop onions, !COOKING:
  2. In a pan add sesame oil and the seasoning items. Fry for 30 sec. Add chopped onion and garlic. Fry this till onion is translucent. Add tomato, brinjal, salt and cook till the tomatoes are almost cooked. Add coriander powder, turmeric and Chili powder and cook for 5 min.
  3. Add tamarind water and cook till the raw smell leaves. Add the ground mixture and boil for 5 minutes.
Notes
This goes good with white rice and Vadam.
